Blackjack Tutorial Thumbnails

SOFTWARE USED: Adobe Photoshop

I began my design approach by researching existing YouTube thumbnails
for both blackjack-related videos and in general. I quickly asked myself,
"What could I do to make my thumbnail more appealing than the rest?".

I understood that the most popular videos' thumbnails mostly featured a

person in the thumbnail, making a facial expression.

After research, I developed some priorities when creating my thumbnail.
Feature the client, include bold text, and allow for multiple choice in direction.

Designed a YouTube thumbnail for an instructional video focused on teaching newcomers the basics and how to

win effectively at Blackjack. The objective was to create an appealing design that captured attention immediately,
communicated the video’s purpose at a glance, and encouraged users to choose it over competing thumbnails.

Design Approach

With those priorities in mind, I developed a series of five thumbnails, each

featuring the client front and center. I added accompanying text to the
client, with the video's title. To allow for multiple choices in direction, I
made sure each thumbnail had a different color palette and typefaces.

Each thumbnail, although it features a primary figure and text, is structured

differently, to also allow for more direction for the client.

In the end, what was delivered provided my client with a range of YouTube thumbnails to help boost

the views on their videos. Each thumbnail produced uses aspects of graphic design such as balance and

hierarchy combined with the strategies implemented by popular YouTubers in their thumbnails.
