Research & Strategy
I was assigned with the creation of a poster series to advertise and promote an upcoming Open House event at the
Buley Library. The goal of this assignment was to create eye-catching posters to grab the attentions of anyone
passing by, in hopes of having them attend the event.
I began my research by taking walks around campus. Whenever I passed a
bulletin board, I would stop to look at all of the posters. I took notes about
the posters that caught my eye, since my series would serve as
competition to these posters.
After I concluded my note-taking, I begun to develop my strategy. I noticed
that the posters that caught my attention the most all had common traits:
large typography, every aspect balanced, and pictures acting as the primary
element. My strategy was to incorporate all of these elements into my
posters, as well as factor in clarity and hierarchy.

I began my designing by creating three
different variations of posters. I made
sure each poster had all of the
elements I took note on present: large
typography, balance applied, and
pictures as the primary element.
Each poster utilizes a unique color
palette, unique typefaces, and
unique photography.
Upon completion, what was
delivered was a series of three
promotional posters for the
Buley Library's upcoming Open
House event that each have a
different way of utilizing their
design elements to catch the
attentions of viewers passing by.
